Perched in the Morongo Valley mountains, Starfire Lodge is a revitalized 1950s architectural masterpiece with soaring ceilings, striking design, and sweeping desert views. Set on 2 private acres, this 3-bed, 2-bath retreat combines mid-century details with curated artifacts, hand-crafted tilework, and an eclectic collection of design pieces. Just 20 minutes to Joshua Tree National Park and 30 minutes to Palm Springs, it’s the perfect launchpad for both desert adventures and restorative downtime. Designed by a retired shipbuilder, the lodge layers wood paneling, metal beams, and original tilework, incorporating an ingenious layering of materials and raw elements throughout the space, creating a a one-of-a-kind memorable escape. Walls of windows capture the dramatic Morongo Valley basin below, with panoramic views stretching to the San Jacinto and San Gorgonio mountain peaks. Every corner holds discovery, from sculptural furniture to vintage records, that will remind you of the warmth and nostalgia of years gone by with a sense of Hollywood glam. -Living Areas- The main living room features super-tall ceilings, structural metal beams and a wall of full-length windows that frame endless desert skies. Relax on plush leather sofas with a drink and good company, basking in the endless mountain views. The Big Cat Lounge, just off the main living area, is an eclectic lounge space with a half-moon sofa, karaoke, a projector screen for movie nights and a high-fidelity sound system with a massive record collection and synchronized lights. Truly decked out for an immersive entertainment experience. -Kitchen & Dining- The kitchen is truly a fully stocked chef’s kitchen and has every tool, sharp knife, and specialty item you could want, plus a high-quality burr grinder and Joshua Tree Coffee Co. beans to start your mornings right. Host a dinner party at the massive stone dining table or sip cocktails at the vintage bar stocked with premium glassware. For meals al fresco, you can enjoy the views and meals from the outdoor dining table on the back patio. -Bedrooms & Bathrooms- Each of the three bedrooms carries its own personality: ►The Cream Room – A minimalist, whitewashed Cali Boho master suite with a king bed and ensuite bathroom. ►The Blonde Room – Clad in mid-century plywood with bold accents, this room features a queen bed, a desk space for working from home and colorful details. ►The Loft – A whimsical, cabin-inspired retreat with a queen bed, cozy textures and Pendleton accents perched upstairs in the open-air loft above the main living room. All beds feature memory foam toppers with 100% cotton OEKO-TEX bedding for restful nights. Both bathrooms showcase beautiful original tiles, rainhead showers, and glass enclosures, with eco-friendly bath products provided. -Outdoor Amenities- Outside, Starfire Lodge offers a desert playground designed for both relaxation and inspiration. Soak beneath the stars in the hot tub or cool off in the cowboy tub soaking pool while surrounded by open desert views. A cast-iron cool plunge bathtub (cold water only) with its own disco ball adds a playful, retro twist to your evening soak. Wander over to Hammock City for a lazy afternoon nap as the sky turns to twilight. The property is dotted with thoughtful touches - croquet and board games for laid-back afternoons, outdoor seating perfect for morning coffee or golden hour cocktails, and endless photo-worthy corners framed by the mountains and desert light. -Surrounding Area- The lodge is tucked in the quiet hills of Morongo Valley, offering solitude with quick access to desert highlights. The dirt roads are well maintained, and any car can drive on them (a four-wheel drive car is not necessary), but please note that the dirt road conditions vary and may have some bumps and ruts, particularly after rainstorms. A personal vehicle is necessary; rideshare apps are not guaranteed in this area. -Dogs- Starfire Lodge welcomes your dogs! There is a $100 per dog per stay fee. Please note on your reservation if you are bringing dog(s) and how many, and we will adjust the price accordingly. There is an unauthorized pet fee of $500. Please use the provided dog sheets before allowing your dogs on any furniture. Cats and other pets are not allowed. -Cowboy Pool and Hot Tub Service- The cowboy pool and hot tub are serviced Tuesday and Friday, approximately between 11am and 4pm. Please note that these times are estimates and may change slightly due to our technician's busy schedule. He will not approach the house but will go directly through to the backyard. -Cowboy Tub Availability- The cowboy tub is drained and unavailable for guest use during winter months (November - March) to prevent the filter from freezing and breaking. -Local Experiences: Relax, Adventure, Connect- We’ve handpicked an incredible selection of local vendors to enhance your Joshua Tree stay, offering a mix of relaxation, adventure, and everything in between. Many services can come directly to the house, ensuring a seamless and unforgettable stay! -Desert Wildlife & Safety Tips- The desert landscape is teeming with wildlife and natural beauty, offering a unique connection to nature, but it’s important to be mindful of the creatures and plants that call this area home. Guests may encounter a variety of wildlife during their stay, and while direct encounters with dangerous animals like coyotes, snakes, scorpions, bobcats, mountain lions and other desert dwellers are rare, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and to keep a safe distance from these creatures when spotted. Additionally, the desert is dotted with sharp cacti and other spiky plants. For your safety, always supervise children, pets, ESAs, and service animals while outdoors. Dogs should remain on a leash at all times and be watched closely while outdoors, as curious pets can wander into potentially unsafe situations with wildlife or plants.
